February Swiss Begins Tonight!

Chess Heroes,

We are starting a new rated 4-round swiss tournament tonight! There are two important changes in this tournament:

  1. We are trying out a longer time control: G/90;+30. I know that at least a couple of players are concerned that games may go very late because of this change. To help control for that, I am going to close registration at 5:55 PM tonight. Game clocks for all rounds will start promptly at 6:00 PM.
  2. We are moving from 3 rounds to 4 rounds! So this increases the likelihood of a clear winner, but the real motivation for this is that players can earn norms towards USCF titles in 4-round events. Don’t know what that means? Here is a PDF from the USCF that explains their title system: The US Chess Title System.

Here are the details for the February Swiss:

What: USCF-rated 4-round G/90;+30 Swiss (must be a USCF member to play)
Entry Fee: $2.00
Where: 2nd-floor community room, Georgetown Public Library
Registration: 5:30 – 5:55 PM, Feb 3
Dates: Feb 3, 10, 17, 24
Time: All rounds start promptly at 6:00 PM
BYEs: One 1/2-pt BYE may be requested for either round 1 or 2, 0-pt BYEs for rounds 3 & 4. Round 2 BYE or late entry with a BYE in round 1 must be requested by Noon on Monday Feb 8.
Prizes: None. The entry fee is collected to pay for ratings fees and maintain club affiliation with the USCF.

So far I am aware that Terry B. requested a first round BYE. If anyone else needs a BYE, please send an email to: vvanburen@gmail.com.
